AMD has unveiled the EPYC Embedded 8004 series of processors, marking an advancement in their fourth-generation EPYC Embedded lineup. These processors leverage the innovative Zen 4c architecture, catering to embedded applications such as networking, security/firewall, and storage solutions, essential for both cloud and enterprise environments, as well as industrial edge servers within factory settings.

EPYC Embedded 8004

The latest series, codenamed "Siena," distinguishes itself from the previous Zen 4-based EPYC Embedded 9004 series. With a focus on lower core counts, reduced frequencies, and decreased power consumption, the EPYC Embedded 8004 series is engineered for single-channel, entry-level servers. This design emphasizes maximizing density and balancing performance with power efficiency, ultimately enhancing energy savings and lowering the total cost of ownership (TCO). AMD's "embedded" philosophy ensures extended product lifecycles, catering to longer-term application needs.

Processor Preview

The inaugural offerings in the EPYC Embedded 8004 series include processors with 12, 16, 24, 32, 48, and 64 cores, corresponding to 24, 32, 48, 96, and 128 threads across six models bearing a "P" suffix (indicating a single operation). These processors boast base clock speeds ranging from 2.3 GHz to 2.65 GHz and can reach boosted speeds between 3.0 GHz and 3.1 GHz. The configurable thermal design power (TDP) varies from a minimal 70W up to 225W, adapting to various performance and efficiency demands. Compatibility with up to 1.152TB of DDR5-4800 memory via six channels, alongside 96 PCIe 5.0 lanes and 48 lanes of CXL v1.1, enhances connectivity and bandwidth for diverse computing tasks.
