In recent years, Intel set the Overheat Protection Temperature (TJMax) for Alder Lake and Raptor Lake to 100°C, serving as the "temperature wall." However, the new generation of Core Ultra, codenamed "Meteor Lake," can have its overheating protection temperature set to 105°C or 110°C, depending on the specific model.

Recently, some enthusiasts disclosed that Intel's upcoming Lunar Lake will reset the overheating protection temperature to 100°C. However, the subsequent Arrow Lake and Panther Lake models seem to increase the overheat protection temperature to 105°C. It is speculated that Lunar Lake and Panther Lake target mobile platforms, while the next generation of desktop products will come from Arrow Lake, likely to run hotter than the current 12th, 13th, and 14th generation Core desktop processors.

The Overheat Protection Temperature is the maximum temperature the processor can reach before activating internal thermal controls to lower power consumption and limit temperature, which can result in performance loss. System manufacturers design products to keep the processor below this threshold during heavy workloads to maximize performance. On the positive side, increasing the overheat protection threshold allows the processor to maintain peak performance longer under high loads. Conversely, it indicates that Intel is confident in its chips’ ability to endure higher temperatures.

This year, Intel will introduce the Core Ultra200 series, comprising Lunar Lake and Arrow Lake. Next year's Core Ultra300 series will follow with a combination of Arrow Lake Refresh and Panther Lake, where the latter’s P-Core will be upgraded from the Lion Cove to Cougar Cove architecture.
