According to media reports, Microsoft's latest Windows 11 AI+ PC computers, while excelling in AI task processing and battery life, fall short in gaming performance.
Similar to the problem faced by Apple Macs, many popular PC games designed for the x86 architecture do not run on Arm-architecture Windows machines, the report said.
To address this compatibility issue, Microsoft developed Prism technology, similar to Apple's Rosetta 2, which was designed to allow x86 applications to run on Arm devices. However, the actual results of this technology were not satisfactory.
James McWhirter, an analyst at research firm Omdia, revealed that they tested about 1,300 PC games and found that only about half of them ran smoothly on Windows 11 AI+ PCs with Arm architecture.
Anti-cheat software in some games such as Fortnite and League of Legends doesn't run on the Arm architecture, making it difficult to launch even less performance-demanding games, and the issue appears to be difficult to fix quickly at this point.
