Interestingly, adhering to AMD's previous processor naming conventions, Strix Point should have been labeled the Ryzen 9050 series—with 9 denoting 2024 and 5 indicating Zen5. However, to underscore the emphasis on NPU and AI, and to outpace competitors, AMD has decided on the Ryzen AI 300 series naming, leading to elongated designations such as "Ryzen AI 9 HX 370."

With the introduction of another Ryzen AI Max series, there is hope that this will not lead to confusion.

The Ryzen AI MAX 300 series builds upon a similar 4nm process, incorporating the Zen5+Zen5c CPU architecture, RDNA3.5 GPU architecture, and XDNA2 NPU architecture as the Ryzen AI 300 series, albeit with enhanced specifications.

Rumor has it that this series will include three distinct models:

The flagship Ryzen AI Max+ 395 boasts 16 CPU cores and 40 GPU cores.

The Ryzen AI Max 390 steps down to 12 CPU cores, maintaining all 40 GPU cores.

The Ryzen AI Max 385 offers 8 CPU cores paired with 32 GPU cores.

Details about the NPU's size remain undisclosed.

Moreover, targeting the mainstream and budget laptop segments, AMD plans to introduce Krackan. Built on the same architecture yet featuring toned-down specifications, it will have up to 8 CPU cores, 8 GPU cores, with the NPU retaining its full 50 TOPS computational power.

Krackan might end up being classified under the Ryzen AI 7 series, or potentially even as part of the Ryzen AI 5 series.
